COLLINS'S MAIN FOREIGN LANGUAGE PUBISHERS

FRENCH.  Collins's main French publishers, founded in 1826 and based in Paris.  By 1892 they had issued fifteen authorised translations.  Volumes were issued in orange paper wrappers printed in black and are sometimes found in their original glassine protective wrappers.  Some titles such as C’etait Ecrit were issued as late as 1922.

GERMAN.  Collins’s works were translated by several German publishers.  Of the 25 titles located in German, ten were published by Janke in Berlin from the 1870s; six by Gunther of Leipzig and two as Voight & Gunther.  Twelve titles were issued by single publishers.

ITALIAN.  Fratelli Treves of Milan published twelve Collins stories translated into Italian in the series Biblioteca Amena.

DUTCH. Following the publication of Man and Wife, Belinfante became Collins's authorised publisher from 1870 to 1885.

SWEDISH.  The majority of Collins's works were translated by a variety of publishers.  The most frequent was Albert Bonnier of Stockholm with nine titles.
